Ted K. Jacobs, Director of Energy Management
Prior to coming to TU, Jacobs served as the Director of Energy Management, formerly Petroleum Land Management (PLM), from 1997 until 2006 at his alma mater The University of Oklahoma. At OU, he is credited with the resurrection of the then PLM program and grew that program from four (4) students to two hundred plus (200+) students and placed 100% of his graduates in the nine years he was there. In the Spring of 1999, Jacobs was the primary architect of the change that took the one dimensional PLM curriculum to the current multi-interdisciplinary curriculum resulting in the name change from PLM to Energy Management. He used this as the blueprint in designing the Energy Management curriculum at TU. Before he began his current career in academia, Jacobs worked in the oil and gas industry. His various job positions included Area Landman, Land Manager, Natural Gas Marketing Representative and Acquisitions Coordinator. During his career he worked for Getty Oil Company, TXO Production Corp, Samson and The Energy Companies of ONEOK. He served as Director of Business Development for the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce in his hometown of Waco, Texas for two years before entering into academia. He received his BBA degree, majoring in Petroleum Land Management, from The University of Oklahoma. When asked what his proudest professional achievement is, without a doubt he will tell you he is most proud of the 175+ graduates he has put into the energy industry, since becoming Director of the OU and TU programs. He feels this contribution of the next generation of new energy professionals is far more significant than any of the wells he drilled, as a landman, during his professional career in the industry.

With almost twenty (20) years of varied experience in the energy industry and now with over ten (10) years in academia, Ted Jacobs is a recognized leader in both business and academics. Jacobs joined The University of Tulsa (TU) in September of 2006 and spearheaded the development of the Energy Management (EM) Center, in TU’s Collins College of Business. His first task was to Chair the EM Faculty Steering Committee, which was responsible in designing a curriculum that is both different and unique from other similar type of business energy degree programs at other universities.
