The Finance and Operations Management Department offers both a major and a minor in finance. In addition, students can concentrate in three areas of finance: corporate finance, investments and portfolio management, and financial institutions. The quality of the University of Tulsa Collins College of Business is acknowledged by being fully accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.

The Tulsa Curriculum, a series of liberal arts courses that expand students’ horizons beyond their major fields of study, is at the core of a curriculum designed to provide a foundation for lifetime learning. The finance curriculum emphasizes the fundamental aspects of finance, economics, quantitative methods, and information technology that provide the technical skills necessary for our graduates to be successful in an increasingly complex financial world. To even further expand their education students may declare a second major or a minor in an area in Business Administration or any other academic program area on campus. Finance students with an interest in international business may complement their studies with an International Business minor, the University’s Summer Study Abroad Program, or a semester or yearlong study aboard or exchange program. The Department is an active participant in international programs including the University of Seigen and the University of Zurich.

TU’s small class sizes and low student-to faculty ratio creates an environment where intellectual curiosity is fostered, personal attention is available, and student-faculty discussions and mentoring are common.

Dr. Roger Bey and Spring 2006 Student Investment StudentsThe desirable class sizes allow faculty to employ a variety of teaching methodologies including case studies, simulations, team projects, and the investigation and analysis of real data. Computer labs with up-to-date hardware and software support classroom education.

Interaction and networking with the business community is available through the Financial Management Association, a student organization, and Friends of Finance, a professional organization of alumni, business leaders, and students.

Career options in finance are vast and varied. Finance graduates may find employment in a corporation as financial analysts, cost analysts, cash managers, and risk managers. In the investment and portfolio management field, graduates may find positions as stockbrokers, financial analysts, portfolio managers, and investment advisors. Graduates may find employment in the banking industry as credit analysts, loan officers, account officers selling financial services, investment officers, and trust department officers. Students have many opportunities for part-time and summer jobs in Tulsa’s financial community. Click on Finance Careers for a more complete description of careers in finance.
