Overview of the Program
Global business education is a central point in the
vision of the TU College of Business Administration. The international business and
language major was developed in conjunction with the TU Department of Languages as a part
of this vision. It provides an exciting educational and career opportunity for those
students who enjoy the study of language.
Access to convenient international travel
and instant communication technologies have virtually eliminated perceptual and real
distance between countries. In many parts of the world, political borders have
become irrelevant while fluency in two or more languages is increasingly the norm in the
business arena. This major provides an exceptional opportunity for students to
attain the necessary tools to compete in an increasingly global marketplace.
This degree combines three components:
(1) education in foundations of business and functional areas of international business,
(2) development of greater familiarity with cultural imperatives, and (3) advanced
training in French, German, Spanish, or Russian.
Curriculum and Unique Features
The College of Business Administration's
commitment to a global business education is reflected in its mission statement.
Global business is identified as one of the central themes for the College.
TU's business college is fully
accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Class sizes
average 25, providing ample opportunity for interaction between professors and students
during and after each class.
Another theme of the College's vision is
the application of information technology to accommodate the communication process and as
a problem-solving tool for business. This expertise is complemented by the use of
communication, presentation, and teamwork skills throughout the program.
The Department of Languages offers major
programs in French, German, and Spanish, and advanced work in Russian. Students
complete the language requirements of a major for the International Business and
Language program. The language component is designed
to develop a high
level of communicative proficiency and cultural literacy in preparation for using the
target language in the student's professional lives.
The TU Center for Global Education (CGE) is the
