Cravens serves as examiner in
Barcelona

In the United States, it’s rare for a professor to
be asked to participate in a dissertation defense at a university other than
their own. Even more uncommon is if that university is in a foreign country.
But that’s exactly what happened to Dr. Karen
Cravens, director of the School of Accounting and MIS and Chapman Professor of
Accounting, who spent her spring break in Barcelona as an external examiner for
the dissertation defense of Dr. Antoni Dorsi.
Cravens received the invitation from Dr. Sanjay
Peters, lecturer in economics at ESADE Business School. Peters supervised
Dorsi’s dissertation “A general model of the transfer pricing process: An
empirical assessment of inter-company transactions in multinational enterprises
in Catalonia, Spain,” which relied heavily on research work published by
Cravens.
Cravens first met with Peters two years earlier to
discuss Cravens’ research, which was being used in Dorsi’s dissertation. With
her research playing such a big part in Dorsi’s dissertation, it was an honor
for Cravens to return to Barcelona during the spring semester of 2005 for his
defense.
Dr. Dorsi is now a graduate of Universitat Ramon
Llull at ESADE.
