In the Management & Marketing Department our emphasis is not only on theory but also on making a practical application. Because of that, the student who majors in Management and/or Marketing will be exposed to a number of opportunities for practical, hands-on learning. Our majors will, at some time, during their course of study, participate in real-world projects, in a class, in a student organization or in an internship. Marketing and the Management students will not only learn the concepts critical to the particular major but also will develop their communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. The Management major offers in-depth study of issues in organizational behavior, human resource management, negotiation skills and business law. Preparation is for employment as a supervisor, specific entry into management training programs or for graduate study in management or law school. Students may major in general management or select the following areas of concentration:- Entrepreneurship
- Business Law
- Human Resource Management.
The human resource management (HRM) program is heavily involved with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) organization, participating in the annual HR Games which should prepare students to test for the PHR professional certification upon graduation. Business Law concentration students have excellent skills for corporate law emphasis as well as HR legal issues. Our Genave King Rogers Business Law Center and Business Law Society provide students with outstanding opportunities for internships and interaction with legal professionals. Our students with a concentration in Entrepreneurship have the chance to participate in the excellent Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter at TU. Additionally, our entrepreneurship students have the chance to participate in the annual state business plan competition. The Marketing major provides exposure to the fundamental aspects of marketing including consumer behavior, marketing research and marketing strategy along with a number of electives to design a course of study that helps them achieve their individual goals. The marketing major can opt for a general marketing degree or can get a concentration in Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC). The IMC concentration is a course of study designed for those who wish to work in advertising, sales or promotions. The marketing major at TU will also have the chance to be involved in the Marketing Society, TU’s chapter of the American Marketing Association. Additionally, our students can participate in the Ad Club, which has, since its founding on campus, been involved each year in the National Student Advertising Competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation.
